The Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services is seeking an artist to create a permanent outdoor art installation at Panorama Park, located in southeast Colorado Springs. The artwork will be integrated into the new design of the park.
“Through a collaborative design process with the community, we seek to enhance the park experience for all users through artistic and cultural expression, and we are thrilled to help bring this special opportunity to the Southeast. of Colorado Springs,” said Connie Schmeisser, park planner. . “The Southeast community has been central to the dreaming, designing, planning and now building of the new Panorama Park. This process of finding an artist will be no different.
How the artist will be chosen
The artist will be selected by two juries. The first jury, made up of representatives of the local artistic community, will validate the proposals. The second panel, which includes members of the Southeast community, will then select the winning artist.
Only applicants with previous experience working on public art projects of a similar scope and budget will be considered.
The chosen artist must be willing to include the community in the artistic process.
The available budget is $70,000, funded in part by a Grants for artistic projects awards from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Bee Vradenburg Foundation in Colorado Springs.
Media style, size and placement are open to the vision of the selected artist; however, the artwork should reflect and enhance the cultural and environmental context of the park and surrounding neighborhood.
Creating an interactive or dynamic experience through the artwork is encouraged, and the vision is not limited to a singular piece, meaning it could work across the entire park site.
Proposals must be submitted to the City by February 28.

Panorama Park is currently undergoing the largest neighborhood park renovation in the city’s history. The new design is the result of significant community input led by key project partners, The Trust for Public Land and RISE ǀ Southeast Colorado Springs.
