A new piece of art will be on display outside the Leon County Library

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Arts group Knight Creative Communities Institute is adding a new piece of public art outside the Leon County Main Library.

Throughout the year, the organization has helped light up the capital with the Art of the Box project, painting utility and traffic control boxes across Tallahassee. This last instillation is just another extension of this project.

KCCI says these projects just help enrich everyone’s life in Tallahassee /

This new mural can be found outside the parking lot of the main library. It’s part of a larger effort to bring art to the public, sometimes in unexpected spaces across the city. Much of the work is also done by volunteers. The organization says this effort helps community members connect with where they live and leave their mark on Tallahassee.

“I think it enriches everyone’s life and we support local art. It’s just this really cool amazing project that brings space creation and vibrancy to our community, ”said KCCI catalyst Dan Taylor.

This mural project has just started on Tuesday afternoon. On Friday, KCCI will be hosting a community painting day. Anyone can come and help with the project.

The event is a kind of kickoff to the Place Creation Week, which will take place during the week. The event will provide several community-wide opportunities to discover public works of art and meet some of the artists.
