2017 Classes for Adults
Oil & Acrylic Painting with Eva Cincotta
Every Tuesday beginning July 11 and ending August 22: 1 pm – 4 pm
Ages 17 & up
$50 per session – Please register in advance!
Eva is a graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University with a B.S. in Education. She is a member of the Rockport Art Association, Malden Sketch Group, and the Matrtha’s Vineyard Art Association. She has been teaching art classes in the Vineyard for several years.
In Eva’s Painting Workshop, you will learn how to render a complete idea in one session. Eva will teach you how to relax and loosen up in your painting process while reinforcing results for both beginners* and experienced* painters. After a demo in oil (which may be applied to acrylics as well) we will make sense of a simple palette and begin to paint. There will be individual instruction and a group critique at the end of every class.
Watercolor Workshop with Ned Reade
August 8, 9, and 10 from 9 am – 3:30 each day
$175 for three day workshop, $70 per day for individual days – Please register in advance!
Ned has studied with the New York Studio School of Drawing and Painting, the Art Students League, Vermont Studio School, and La Romita School of Art in Italy. He currently paints in rural Vermont and New York and has spent his career teaching drawing, painting, and art history.
In Ned’s Watercolor Workshop you will begin each day with a live demonstration in some of the most picturesque spots on the island. He will be available throughout the day both individually and as a group to help you move from a sketch to finished painting. Intermediate and advanced artists can expect to learn something each day from Ned’s instruction and beginners will be able to build a foundation of techniques and painting “en plein air.” Registered students will receive a schedule and materials list.
This class will introduce the beginner* to the luminous medium of soft pastels. We will learn about a variety of pastels (soft to hard, pan pastels, and their applicators, pastel pencils) and how they can each be used to maximize successful paintings. Also covered will be the variety of surfaces which can be painted upon, including your own underpainted surfaces. And, finally, how to care for your painting after completion–i.e. ways to frame.
Working with a still life and/or landscape photograph attendees will do a series of specific excersizes which will adress theories of composition, color and value as they relate to the medium.
If possible but not required, students are asked to please bring an apron (or wear clothes that you don’t mind getting messy), an old towel to put beneath your easel yo protect pastels from breaking to bits should they be dropped, a medium to large sketch pad (newsprint is fine) and two Prismacolor markers (light and dark gray) which can be purchased at Educomp in Vineyard Haven or DaRosa’s in Oak Bluffs. In addition to this please bring an iPhone or an iPad.
* Intermediate and advanced pastel artists are also welcome with the understanding that the class is geared towards the beginner.
